The cost of renting varies enormously. Renting a single room as part of a flat share in central London can cost more than £1100 per month. That’s double the amount of renting an entire two-bedroom house in Matlock, Derbyshire!
Let’s assume you’re starting out in a flat share in a large town. To get started you’ll need a month’s rent for a deposit (£500), your first month’s rent in advance (£500), a bed (£160) and other furnishing for your room (£100), and your contribution to the household bills (£90).
