Mum:
“What a waste of money! You should be saving up for the big things you really want.”
Caitlin (girlfriend):
“They’re OK, but I don’t think you should spend all your savings on them. There are other nice pairs that don’t cost as much. And you’d still have money so we can go out at the weekend!”

“Buy them! Everyone at school will be well impressed! Not many people have them yet and I’ve seen the adverts everywhere.”

“It’s perfect – you look amazing! You absolutely have to wear it tonight! You can always sell it online later and get some of the money back.”Shop assistant:
“We can set you up with a store loyalty card. You’ll get a 5% discount on the dress, and we’ll even throw in a free pairEmily (sister):
“It’s nice but you’ve already got so many great outfits! You’d look fantastic in any of them! Save your money – you might see something you like even more.”
Avinash (friend):
“You don’t need to buy it right away. Leave the shop and take time to think about it. Besides, I’m sure I’ve seen the same dress cheaper online. There’ll be other parties you can wear it to.”
Dad:
“That’s a lot of money! We’ll lend it to you, but you won’t get any pocket money for a couple of months... and you’ll need to do a lot of chores to pay us back!”
Lachlan (best friend):
“Go on – buy the ticket! I don’t want to go to the gig on my own. It’ll be brilliant if we both go.”
Conor (friend):
“You might never get the chance to see them live again. Who knows when they’ll be back?”
Megan (friend):
“Why don’t you come with me and watch the screening in the park? It’s so much cheaper! Think of how many music downloads you could buy for the price of seeing the band live!”
